Removing brake booster Series 2
Hi there;
The bodywork behind the brake booster is in a poor shape and must be repaired, Therefor i must remove the booster, but how can i disconnect the brake pedal from the booster, should i take out the righthand vent-blower first?
Thanks for your answer, Rudy

Rudy,
The whole pedal box, booster, master cylinder, and brake pedal will come out as a unit. Under the dash there will be 6 bolts (LHD) or 5 bolts (RHD) surrounding the brake pedal opening and there is 1 bolt at the top of the pedal box in the engine compartment. Disconnect the brake lines, vacuum hose and brake fluid level wires and everything will lift out as a unit. Now that I've said all of this, I have to add that this is the way a S3 comes apart. I'm guessing a S2 is similar.
P.S. Brake fluid is super corrosive, cover the inner wing with rags and plug the brake lines after you've disconnected them or you will be repairing the wing too.

Hello, Rudy,
It's not necessary to remove any vents, at least not in Left drive Series 2 cars.
Inside the car, under the pedal box are 4 bolts holding the box to the body. Remove them.
In the engine compartment, at the top of the pedal box is one bolt with a very heavy washer. Remove that.
About midway on the pedal box is a pivot with a self locking nut. Remove this bolt and the pedal will fall out onto the floor.
On my Series 2 it was not necessary to remove any vents as the pedal box stands alone in the engine compartment, not being bolted to the bulkhead with 4 bolts as in Series 3 cars.
After the pedal has fallen out on the floor and all the 4 bolts are loose from inside, and the one large bolt is loose from the top, the entire master cylinder/booster/pedal box assembly can be lifted from the car.
As they always say, To reassemble do all this in reverse.
I wish you success.

The pedal will Not go through the hole in the bodywork on Series 2 and Must be parted from its box for the whole assembly to be removed from the car.

Yes. The rubber pad is fixed to a mounting plate. The rubber has a lip all round that wraps round the metal pad. This has a welded on stud to take a nut. As I rememer it, the very large brake pedal on autos is too wide to get through the gap in the firewall.
