Default Removing fascia air vents S3

I want to remove the centre air vent and it seems like it would just pull out without having to remove the dash pad or panel. I can't find any reference in the manual and obviously I don't want to damage it, so wondered if anyone could enlighten me please? However it is removed I assume the same would apply to the L & R vents?

Cheers,

The center vent pulls right out.

The side vents are held in with ....with....with some sort of clips. Memory a bit foggy on that

Cheers

Many thanks Doug. I suspected they'd be a similar fitting to the X300, just wasn't sure.

the two side dash vents have something like "Z" shaped clips and are very difficult to remove, you have to get at the clips from behind, and even that is difficult. I ended pulling the vent until the clip bent.

Thank you Jose. Useful info for my growing knowledge bank! I'm always suspicious of even simple components that appear easy to remove, as often they prove to be just the opposite!! Sounds like the centre vent should be an exception, at least.

the center and the side vents may have been designed by two different designers!!

Wouldn't be at all surprised, the car is full of inconsistencies. Maybe that's what gives them character!

The Z-springs are indeed tough to work with; putting them BACK is a special chore.... and with 40-year old plastic vents, nerve-fretting....

I just pushed the vent back without the z clip, doesn't move, the rubber air ducting holds it in place.

looking at it, they're probably overkill in the engineering department. still, if a vent ever simply "fell out" of one of these cars due to NOT having them.... Mr Lyons would not have approved!

if you can pull the vents out by sheer force, then forget about the z clip when reinstalling them;

I covered the perimeter behind the outside edge of the vents with enough black duct tape (Gorilla tape), so that they would go in the square opening tightly, while at the same time pushing the rubber air duct from behind into the vent. They haven't moved in years.
