And I only had to give the shop $100 before they passed her!! That's what the PO said I should do to insure "safe passage." I don't think this is what he meant though.
I am pleased to say she turned heads all the way to the SMOG station, some drivers lingering as they went by on the passing lane. Her fuel is several months old so I took her past our favorite gas station where one of the other customers, filling his old Ford pickup, smiled and nodded.
NIX HAS HER OWN FANS!! I had forgotten how much people Like her!!
And the SMOG tech was Very respectful of her clearcoat after I explained the situation and showed the scratch from 2 years ago and the one from Friday. He laid his cables out the front between the fender and hood and didn't put his greasy hands on her this time. (That didn't bother he so much because Meguiar's takes care of those with no trouble.)
I have some time to make up and some miles to cover; refamiliarizing myself with all her quirks and foibles, where the switches are, WHY NONE OF THE WINDOWS WORK!
To say the celebration was Outstanding is a Gross understatement! "What A Grand Party It Was.......!"
There was Champagne, and music, and food (and a bit of rain), and Everyone who saw Nix fell Instantly in Love with her!!
On the way into town, as we rounded the the first turn of the Infamous S-Curve, a Large pickup (red, it was) caught sight of Nix coming toward him (I assume it was a him) and flashed headlights! Even from a distance at oncoming highway speed she gets attention!! I admit though, She Was Looking Fine!!
One of my friends who had never seen Nix before was nearly Drooling; she's driven BMWs for years. I said of her Bimmers, "Low Rent!" and she responded with a good-natured and expected, "HEY!!"
So Nix has had a Very Proper Coming Out party and was a Smash Hit!! Belle Of The Ball, as they say.
We have decided it will be a while before she's jacked up again. Well, except that when I did the ThermoFlex tubing on the trans cooling lines I disturbed the speedo cable so I have no speedometer but that's minor. I know my speed by the tach!
Tomorrow it's back to the old grind and I Must be quick about it, because we're told to expect RAIN in the afternoon, and I had very well Better be finished!
Good news, on the road again must be relief for you both.
Congratulations, all that hard work has paid off and the 9 months or so off the road will be a distant memory very soon.

I jacked her up November 1, 2014, 10-1/2 months ago!! It shouldn't have taken this long, but now that she and I are mobile again, you might be right about the memory part, but I seem to have a pretty good memory. It's good too, because someone has to remember how it was.

It didn't take any time at all to discover she is in Critical need of some alignment, especially castor. And, as I feared, the steering isn't as light as it was with the original rack but I'll probably adapt. You're right though, we NEED to enjoy her for a while before the next shoe drops.

Thank you very much. There isn't a club drive until late October, by which time I might even have the windows sorted out. However, last night, the first time out at night in nearly a year, I was Very pleased to see my lighting upgrade in the Opticell was a Smashing success! So much so, that now the rest of the panel lights look positively Feeble

LOL @ "drive the wheels off!" You took the words right out of my hands! That's been my intention from the beginning! Husband will get to go along sometimes (he did bankroll the job after all, and changed the rear calipers, which work Fine, BTW), and he'll get that 'nice meal' of his choosing today. But most of the time it will be just Nix and me. I'll probably be finding Any excuse to take her on the open road.

Windows: I think the switches in your car and mine are similar. but, in lieu of gang connectors as mine has, yours might be individual wire to pin connections.
I shudder at the task of keeping them straight. But, well within your capabilities and with able help as well!! More than likely, a connector thing or all the switches are dirty inside. But, after spell.
Speedometer. Yeah, mine works but is "nuts", I have the stuff to fix it, but, I like you am on an enjoyment phase. And, I know how nuts, so merely interpret!!! and, as you suggest, check the tach. On the freeway, stay close to two grand.
C note: Shop minimum for screwing down the idle jets. Not a flat out bribe,. so well spent, I guess. And, with the present shop to Sacto connection, I doubt that a "forced pass" is possible. Once, oh yeah,

Since NONE of the windows don't work, I have a major power wire disconnected somewhere in the console I think. I was Very careful to make wiring maps of the individual switches when I took everything apart (and bundled the wires according to each switch, labeling each bundle), and I was again Very careful to put them back in that order.
I know there's a breaker under there somewhere and a Huge relay, they're at the top of my list of suspects. I can reach all that by merely pulling the ski slope and the cache box, I'm Sure I don't need to completely disassemble the console.
The speedometer cable has done this before so I know how to fix it. The sheath was broken when I got the car and it just quits holding hands at the 90 degree adapter. It should be replaced, but the thought of fishing a new sheath through that mess is rather intimidating. Maybe over this coming Winter I'll do that.
They charged me $44.50 to twiddle the idle screw while watching the machine. That added to the Pre-Test (which I requested and I'm glad I did) brought the total to a bit over $100, but it's DONE, and next time I'll know.
Have you got a laptop in the car? You know it's quite dangerous to type whilst driving, which you must be doing all the time now!!!

I do have other responsibilities, ya know, so even though it's painful, I simply can't drive Nix all the time!
Besides that, I discovered the low pressure hose is leaking at the power steering pump. DRAT! Faulty hose clamp to blame. So I'll need to fix that before she goes out again.
I *Knew* there would be other problems cropping up!
