S3 Headlamp relay Hi-beam latching
Serves me right for being idle. Went pottering about the S3 yesterday and noticed one headlight hi-beam would not function. Traced it to a poor connection to one of the relays I had fitted to bypass the headlamp switch. Now, whenever the headlamp switch is turned to "main", the Hi-beams come on so all good there. But I now have lo Lo-beams.
Flicking the stalk does not unlatch the Hella relay as it should. Also, with the switch off, the headlamps do not flash when the stalk is pulled. This also happened when I did the relay mod initially, but I cannot recall how it was resolved. Any info on how to unlatch the relay? I had previously cleaned the red Capacitor of some grease, but other than that, I did nothing more. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting each of the relay connections. No improvement.

The relay is triggered by grounding. At the base of the column stalk is a spring-metal tab. That's the ground. It might be dirty. Gotta remove the column shrouds to see it.
It might be easier, though, to first simply check that the relay is getting the ground trigger on the blue/black wire. If not, you can then look at the ground tab.

Doug, once again, you were spot on. When I cleaned that red capacitor, (that is connected to that blue/black relay trigger wire), I must have messed with the Blue/black wire that is part of that connection. It has a bullet joint before it disappears into the RH wing. It was a poor/faulty connection at that joint. All is well now. Thanks once again.
