Howdy, recently my series 2 Daimler just stopped starting/ turning over. I used the RAA (Road assistance in Adelaide) and he got the car going by bypassing the ignition. He said it was probably the starter coil (as battery, starter motor and alternator all good). I checked the starter coil and it was damaged o the inside so I replaced it.
It still wasn't starting but I noticed when I pushed the gear lever to the left more in park, it started perfectly. It was same with neutral. I thought this is all I have to do as this method was working during that day but now it has gotten worse. I just managed to find the right spot in park last night to fire it up and get the car home.
Just wondering is there something I could adjust to correct this? or do I need to relace the inhibitor switch?

there is a neutral safety switch at the front of the shifter. It is a roller type of switch or a round switch. It is adjustable.

Assuming your car is RHD, it might be located on the front left side of the shifter assembly or "tower".

You need to remove the panel around the shifter, where the ashtrays are, to see it. Instructions for adjusting it are found in the Factory Service Manual.

Update : I managed to find instructions and have a look and see the what I thought was safety switch. I was not confident in adjusting anything but I gave the area a good clean spray and sprayed some silicon lubrication. It seemed to work so I put everything back together but didn't last long.
I then replaced the battery and it has been working perfect every since.
Looking back I have had to recharge the battery a couple of times and the previous owner probably BS me about the condition of the battery. Previously if I turned the motor over any more than 3 times or left the car for 2 days the battery went flat, now I don't have that issue.

 

batteries over 3 years old are not dependable anymore. They do it on purpose so you have to buy another one.

for my everyday minivan I go to the junkyard and exchange my battery paying $25. dollars for a better one with 30 days warranty. If it lasts over 30 days, I got my money's worth.

 

Invest in a load tester. Carbon pile or electronic.

For fear of Sir Jinx, I will not mention the age of the batteries in my cars .
