Screws for Petrol Bowser
A chap has sent me replacement screws for the filler neck but they don't seem right. they are short flat heads. the two i had remaining of the 8 that were on it before are the phillips ones in the picture.
so anyone know the right ones? the p. ones screw in and the flatheads don't so maybe they are from a different model.
the ones i was sent
the ones that seem to fit

That Phillips head screw is definitely wrong. Its a very coarse thread as per self-tapping screw thread.
Jaguar used SAE threads on all of its models from the Mk7 from 1950s on until recently.
If you are looking for new screws they will most likely be NF (national fine) or NC (national course).
A good source for these screws would be in an aviation supply place as USA manufactured aircraft are full of them.

I have just removed one of my screws out of my XJ6 fuel tank filler.
The pan head screws are definitely originally correct and they are 10-32 NF (national fine) by 1/2 inch long.
Someone may have used self-tappers on your car if the Phillips head screws fit.
They may have destroyed the original 10-32 thread.
