If you could find a mid-late 70s XJ12 as a donor car you could swap over the entire FI system lock, stock, and barrel. Should be entirely doable...with enough time and effort. I wouldn't consider it without a donor car alongside, personally.
Or were you thinking about some sort of aftermarket FI system?

Hello '73:
I can't emphasise this enough, your car is very rare. I have been searching for about a year and let me assure you that even wrecks and recognizale cars are very thin on the ground. Good ones very very very rare. They were only just gotten into production when the series II was introduced. Series II cars are much more available, well sort of.
That said I cannot see the benefit of what you propose. Harsh reality is you will never see any real fuel economy with this car and it begs the question "Why wouldyou be concerned?" Certainly you couldn't be considering this as a daily driver???
Supposing you do find a series III donor and you swap all the injection over. |
Lets assume you get it perfect and forget the lenght of time your car will be sidelined. OK?
You will see no more than 15 to 20 MPG at the BEST and most IDEAL.
I own three purrfectly running V-12 cars and those figures are reality.
For an occasional driver it would take fifty years for this conversion to repay
you in fuel savings.
I believe this to be a bad path to go down.
However the good news is this, you have a rare car that you can be proud of.
If it runs in a reliable way you have a very interesting eye grabbing car that can only increase in value.
I would say congratulations on that car...without even seeing picture!
I would encourage you to enjoy the car as, and post some pics!
