Series 3 diff oil change
Hi all
I've decided to change the oil in my cars diff, the fill plug looks a little tricky to get to... If I remove the plate at the bottom of the cage do I need the car to be up on jacks i.e with the wheels in the air? Or are ramps okay to use?
Secondly, I understand this is an old limited-slip unit, I've gone for GL5 oil, any problems running GL5 as opposed to GL4? Limited slip ofcourse.
Many thanks.

Ramps are fine.
I see no problem with GL5 for the differential. There are some anecdotal instances of GL5 not being an appropriate choice to replace GL4 when used in some manual transmissions....but that's obviously not the issue here. Others will chime in as they always do when oil is the topic
You'll want a limited slip additive as well...unless the oil you bought indicates it is already limited slip compatible
Cheers
