Series 3 XJ6 - Kent Wheels Vent Holes Differnt Sizes?
Hello All,
Here's a curiuos thing I just discovered on our 1982 Sereis 3 XJ6, which we've had since 1987.
The Vent Holes in two of the Kent wheels are a different size than the other two Kent wheels? See attached pics.
I do not believe that we ever had to replace any of the wheels and that the ones on the car were origional to the car, at least when it became part of our Jag fleet in 1987.
What ye all think?

Hello Gregory,
The part numbers emobossed on the wheels are the same, but there is a slight difference:
Large Vented Hole Wheels, CAC391, with 41 stamped on a small raised rectangle to the right of the embossed number.
Smaller Vented Hole Wheels, CAC391, with 4 / 1 stamped on a small raised rectangle to the right of the embossed number.
Interesting that the part number difference being the stamped "41" vs. a stamped "4 / 1"?
I'll post some pics of the part numbers later today
Cheers,
Chuck

Old timers from J-L may remember Stephen Gibson who ran Supercat Spares. I think he passed away quite a few years ago. But here's a cut-n-paste from one of his postings from 23 years ago
In April 1975 the wheel was available for Series II V12 EFI models. These wheels could
not be fitted to other XJ Series models as they would foul the calipers.
In Nov 1975 the front calipers of the 6cyl cars were revised to be in common with the
V12 cars, so that the alloy wheels could now be fitted. This change took place at
4.2 LWB …2T14089/57185 XJC …2J1601/51519
In Mar 1977 A new version alloy wheel became an option and could be fitted retrospectively
except for the XJ Series I cars which could only have the new wheel fitted. This new
wheel was Part No. CAC1701.
In Jan 1978 new wheel nuts were introduced which were 7/8" instead of 3/4" AF and
with a non-mulled shoulder. It was therefore necessary for a different wheelbrace (Doug)
This change took place at 4.2 LWB 2T22973/68827 V12 2R4694/58346 …USA 58421
For the XJ Series II cars the original part number was C41290/1 which superseded to
CAC1701
For the XJ Series III the part number was CAC3914/1
I hope this puts some perspective on availability and size.
I also recall conversations about certain contour/edges being softer on some Kent wheels and better defined on others. I can't really remember what was concluded but I'm thinking there was one more part number that Gibson doesn't mention?
Cheers

Hello All,
I agree, it is amazing the amount knowledge, minushia, karma, et al that populate this Forium!
Attached are pics of the afore referenced part mubers:
CAC39141 - Large Vents Wheel
CAC3914/1 - Small Vents Wheel
Enjoy and thanks for putting your skulls to work on this... now to plan what to tinker with on the "Rampant Jag" over the weekend.
Cheers,

The early XJS lists the Kent road wheel as CAC3913, superceded to CAC1700 for 1979 and CAC3914 for 1980. I think the earlier wheel was polished and the later wheel painted, but there isn't any notation in the parts book about what the difference was.
The early Series III XJ6 Kents are listed as CAC3914/1, whereas the V12 wheels are listed as CAC39141 (no slash)
I think you have a mixture of V12 and 6 cylinder wheels, maybe the V12 wheels have the larger vents in anticipation of faster speeds and heavier braking?
I was mistaken, the "high security vehicle" wheels are the ogle perforated ( pepperpots). CCC3971 for high security, CAC5667 for regular Ogle. Applicable from VIN 486631, which I think is late 1991 onward.
