Series II XJ12 engine plumbing. Is it all necessary?
Hi all,
The work on the barn find 1978 fuel injected Double Six continues.
I am currently slowly working my way down removing the layers of plumbing on top of the engine down towards the heads.
As expected there are masses of various pipes. The hoses are all old and hardened making them difficult to work with. I am of course taking lots of photos. I imagine I will be asking quite a few questions regarding the engine in the near future.
So this is the questions! It appears that much of the plumbing is redundant, added on to the engine's original design to ensure compliance with emissions and pollution requirement back in the seventies. As purely a collectable car now, what various pipes and systems can be safely removed without affecting the engine's performance?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
regards all
Al

Um, ALL of it, except the fuel rails of course.
I dumped all teh emission stuff, coz, as you satate, it is redundant and inoperative anyway,
All I kept was the fuel rail and the vac balance, 10mm diam hose, for the MAP sensor out the front.
Air rails, metres of vac hoses, dump valves, other NO idea valves, balance pipe, AAV, PCV plumbing, over run valves, all gone.
Same practice to the HE engines.
Performance, NOT scientific, but they were all snappier, and just "felt" better.
