Default South African XJ6s

Hi Folks,

I've got a South African assembled 1974 SII XJ6 SWB (here in Australia).

Apart from being assembled by Leycor (and being one of the very few Jags ever to wear a Leyland badge!) I don't know anything about them.

Does anyone know of a good source of credible info on SA Jaguars?

Cheers,

Tony.

If you go to the Jag-lovers site and search the "XJ" archives you might find something. You'll have to go back 8-10 years (maybe more) as there was only one regular contributor (to my recollection) who owned one of the South African Jags. I think his name was Graeme or Graham or something like that. The car was discussed fairly often as I recall

What sort of info are you looking for?

Cheers

Tony,

Although I've seen mention of XJ6's being assembled locally from KDK's (Knock Down Kits) in both Cape Town, SA and Nelson NZ, none of the Jaguar books I've read give any further details.

Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust ( Jaguar Heritage ) hold all the company archives and may have more information.

Graham

I think some knock-downs were assembled in Mexico as well.

Researching all the KDKs might be a fun project. Tony, you've just been elected :-) :-)

Cheers

Yeah, thanks for that mate.

I was aware of the Nelson (NZ) and Blackheath (SA) factories. I understand that there were only a very few XJ6s to come out of Nelson before the project was canned. The Blackheath plant made all sorts of Leyland/Leycor stuff and kept making Leyland trucks for a while. Ultimately (to this day?) it's an LG warehouse! (All the above is from memory).

I've not come across anything about Mexico CKDs. Did Leyland have any other assembly operations in Mexico?

Cheers,

Tony.
