Standard Original Series 1 Stereo Removal
Hello All, as per the title I want to remove my standard S1 Stereo so I can try to solve a heater system fault (it's not working at all), but I need to remove the Stereo.
As I have the original S1 Stereo, I really don't want to break something while trying to remove it, after some advice from those with experience.
Woz.

Get the Jaguar CD with parts manual and service manual
Without the exploded view of the radio area you will have problems... your heater problem is probably all the vacuum lines behind the radio... most of
the heater controls are no longer available new (NLA).. but all can be converted to modern stuff.

without a picture I'm guessing you start by pulling the left and right knobs off their control shafts, usually 4 pieces, maybe two. Then you remove the thin nuts at the shafts,
then you carefully pull the faceplate off of the front of the radio, assuming there is nothing else holding it in place (other than the two thin nuts).
after the faceplate is off, the radio must be easy to pull out, unless there are screws holding a secondary support plate in place. In that case, remove any screws.

If I recall correctly, the radio is mounted behind the plate which also mounts the heater control on my 72S1XJ6. I seem to remembering it being a PITA to remove because of the heater control cables? I have a shop manual, but I dont recall a good exploded view of that area. Its been decades tho. As soon as I can get to my manual and car I will check it out

I've just pulled the stereo out after following the above advice. Order of removal was.
1. Remove knobs and toggles from heater controls.
2. Remove knobs from stereo.
3. Remove thin lock nuts from stereo control shafts.
4. Slide off stereo cover.
5. Pull off heater control slider trim x 3.
6. Undo the heater twist control lock nut.
7. Carefully pull off metal facia.
8. You will now see the black metal support bracket that holds the top centre heater control and the stereo. Remove the 4 x black screws and carefully pull the bracket out. You can now seperate the stereo from the support bracket.
9. You will now have access to all the heater system vacuum pipes.
I wanted to remove the stereo to fix the heater system, but also to replace the stereo with something more modern. The support bracket won't allow this without some modification. Hopefully Clarke may be able to help me out here?.....
