Ascanio1, Could you let us know where the Alicool condenser comes from and what the part numbers are? I'm looking for a similar "drop-in" unit with fans etc.

Thank you Jagboi! This is an impressive history of parts of our Jaguar A/C system!

This could be an option but I doubt that the brackets, pulleys, belts, etc., would simply drop-in. If I have to ask the mechanic to come up with modifications, then it defeats the object of my idea to reduce to a minimum the modifications.

Given all your explanation, I come to the conclusion that your recommendation might be the best course of action, at least for this specific component, the compressor. I will try to follow this advice but I might have to renegotiate labour costs.

Just for your information, I face the challenge of having negotiated a very low ($1,800) labour charge. This was based on a few understandings:
i. I would deliver all replacement components with the car so that he could complete all the work in one go and I would not take up space in his workshop, waiting for parts;
ii. He would not be required to inspect, or repair, any of the old components;
iii. The car would not go in and out of his workshop or occupy his hydraulic lifter longer than he considers necessary.

This mechanic has a small workshop and only two hydraulic lifters. Space and lifters are the instruments that generate his revenue and the longer a car occupies either of them, the more it will cost him.

Of course I can ask him to lower my Daimler and move it into storage, not too far, while we decide what to do with each component. Yes, I can break up the repairs in two sessions. But I will end up with a higher labour charge for inspection and repairs, regardless of the fact that, chances are, I might end up having to buy new components anyway! Not only I will waste labour costs but, more importantly, I will keep older parts with a shorter life expectancy which might defeat my initial purpose of (a) saving on labour and (b) replacing components to extend their expected life and increase reliability.

Having said all this, I think that the compressor might warrant a different approach for the reasons that you described. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise.

Hi iramphal, sure.

The company is this one but, please, note that I cannot offer you the parts numbers as the XJ12 kit is not listed and they build it specifically on order as they did for other forum members who recommended this kit. I spoke to a chap at Alicool called Keith. He confirmed and guaranteed that it would be straightforward drop-in, just as used by other forum members.The price for a radiator with fitted fans and cowl and fan sender switch to regulate the on and off temp is £932 and they will also sell you the whole list of hose clamps, if you send them a list. The fans come with a white connecting block but most people strip these and wire in.

I decided to go also for the A/C condenser, as their aluminium radiators are claimed to have a much greater efficiency than the original brass ones.

I hope this helps. Tommaso

i. high pressure hose
ii. all internal parts required for the refurbishing of the rack (local rack refurbishing specialist offered me a very cheap estimate for labour, but I must provide all parts
iii. pump

Tommaso, Good to hear that you are making progress. SNG Barratt sell repair kits (basic parts) for £50 to £60. They may need to know exactly which make and type of rack you have and what you want beyond the basic kit. As they have an EU outlet, ordering should be straightforward.

For radiators, Alicool has unfortunately closed, another victim of the economic situation. I have their XJS version in my DD6.

Thank you Peter! I messaged them as they had a few different ones.

In another thread I mention that Alicool went upside down so I am buying from Radtec. Could you help me out, there, for the thermostat?

My thermostats are from a few years ago. I'm fairly sure they were from Barratts. Because of the way the thermostats in Jaguar engines block the bypass as they open, it's better to go to a supplier that knows the requirements, even if it costs a little more. There's probably some discussion on the XJS subforum. Also, I prefer the lowest temperature thermostats; I think that's 75°C.

Good evening Peter, thank you. Yes, I list the options here. Which one is preferable? Perhaps it is be more helpful if you were to reply in the other thread, so as to benefit future forum readers who may search thermostat and cooling systems issues.
