As everyone has said, these cars & this hobby is a lot of fun. Enjoy the path you take.

30 or 40 years ago concours used to be a "fun" thing within our local Jaguar car club but it fell by the wayside as professional restorers and detailers got onto the act.
"Cheque book" restorations costing ludicrous amounts of money were being done which left the average car club member out in the cold. They just didn't bother to compete.
Consequently, on our local scene concours has disappeared.
It has been replaced by "display days" where everyone is welcome to display their car and a "people's choice" is awarded to one car.

In fact, when we joined our Jag Club in 2014, members were already mourning the passing of Club's ability to hold JCNA Concourse as the rules had become so stringent that the fun was gone even for club members. Some of them had even been judges for several years, but stopped because they didn't enjoy it anymore.
There is only One true Concourse in this entire north half of the state, the Concourse d'Elegance, held at the local country club golf course in Chico, usually in October, which draws participants from all over the western US. However, few locals bother because, as you say, they can't compete with such big money as rolls in on $$$$$$ enclosed transport trailers.
But we all like to look.

So Maintain, Repair, Restore, Upgrade, Enjoy ??
Locally, various clubs hold Show & Shine events that are usually well participated and attended. Usually there is even a judging, classes and that sort of thing, but none of the perceived Snobbery and Exclusivity that surround a Concourse.

but in the end no clear path. Have no idea what a factory BL paint job looks like. My XJC BRG looks deep but has minor flaws, maybe repainted at some point, so I'll start there, may never fall into a "Pure" category. I AM installing Euro bumpers, including the proper lower grille I restored. Keeping all old parts, including the tin sieve Jaguar called the coolant expansion tank. Redyed all interior side panels, repaired corrosion, etc. Do everything with my own hands & even with some blue haze until warmed up, I never plan to lump it. Thanks for all the great comments.

If JCNA Concours folks wanted their program to be as meaningful as some other marques (Corvette, Porsche, etc) it needed firming-up. People naturally resist change; I can easily see where more stringent rules would upset people and make things less fun.
Cheers

I don't know what rules either, Doug, as that all happened before we joined in 2014.
I will say that we were by far the Youngest members, average age being 70 at that time (they were SO pleased to get some "young blood" in the club). Resistance to change could certainly have been a contributing factor to their dissatisfaction.

Religion
[Strikes me that with a mark steeped in so much tradition & history, it's not a club as much as it is a religion.
Not sure changing the rules to satisfy todays culture is possible. We either abide or not. Concouse will always be Concourse. Maybe a new category is required, a new sect we can belong to with value of it's own. QUOTE=LnrB;2665260]^^
