SWAPSEY DOODLE.
I have a whole bunch of Jaguar parts from various past projects etc.
My current project is to upgrade a series 1 XJ6
I’d appreciate your input/suggestions/ corrections and opinions.
My first swap is the old cast Iron 6 with 52,000 miles on it is going to be pulled and polished up to be put on display.
In its place is going to be a later HE V12. ( with carbs). Now I know people have unsuccessfully tried that in the past. But I don’t believe it’s the fault of the carbs. Rather the fault of the distributor.
The HE is supposed to get better fuel mileage over the Pre HE. The only way it can do that is if it uses less fuel. So carbs should make it rich not lean. American gasoline has 10 % ethanol in it. Which actually leans out the mixture slightly. If it’s not lean enough I can go to E15 ( 15% ethanol). Since Ethanol his a higher octane than Gasoline it should be pretty close to the right timing for the Pre HE distributor.
If not, I have my own distributor machine to change springs and advance weights. To bring it in line.
While the EFI is better than carbs, the 1972 series 1 isn’t wired or plumbed for EFI so adapting it would be a massive job to make it work.

The second thing I have is a 1985 Tan interior which I th k would look stunning in the 1972 series1 ( the Black interior is fine but doesn’t excite me as much as the tan interior does)
Just eyeballing things I think everything should swap over except the rear door cards. I was thinking of using the black door cards as a pattern to shorten up the Tan door cards. Think it will work?

A simple way to do the rear door cards is to re-colour them from black to tan.
There are heaps of products on the market which will work very well.
I have recoloured seats and door trims many times.
