I purchased an XJ6 wiper motor as an upgrade for a Mark 2 project. The motor came with a copper colored clip and a brass pin but I can't figure out where they go. I see a white plastic fitting that activates a switch at the end of the cable travel - I assume this is driven by the clip which connects to the cable drive, but for the life of me I can't figure out how they attach. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
why would you want to adapt a XJ-6 wiper motor to your MK!! ?? the XJ-6 wiper motor is notoriously lazy and a pita. I assume you just want the intermittent wipe?
not worth it. The 2-speed wiper motor in my 1965 S type is far superior to the wiper motor in my 1984 XJ-6. Ask me how I know !!
if you search around, there is a kit that lets you add an intermittent wipe to your otherwise "normal" 2-speed wiper setup. You can find those in the UK.
Thank you for posting the parts diagram - I'm wondering if I have a different motor in the series? The diagram doesn't seem to show the white plastic fitting I have that slides in the upper slot and activates the white push button at the bottom of the slot - I assume this is the park switch that shuts power to the motor when the wipers are switched off and they continue to be powered until they reach the park position. The copper clip fits a slot in the center of the plastic fitting and seems to align with the drive cable, but the cutout at the drive doesn't match? I've buried the motor behind the glovebox (actually behind a passenger air bag) in this build so I'd like to get this right before installing.
Even with the Hella intermittent wiper kit, 5WA 001 871-041 12V, the S1 XJ wipers are horrible. Adding variable speed just helps a little... Using RainX helps more by coating
the front window and not using the wipers... wipers and front seats are just horrible in early Jaguars.
I have the problem wiper parking is not working. Wipers stop instantly where they happen to be when I turn the dash switch off. I notice the park switch of the restored wiper motor i’m about to install is shorter than the one on the motor I am replacing. With the wire fully extended it does not seem to reach to the cam that is supposed to press on it. I will try swapping over the old park switch. Longer pin of this park switch Shorter pin of this park switch
