yes , the threads on the inner rod which is part of the rack it self When I talk to the rack people, the first question is ?what thread size. then there is where I'm stuck.
The untold story is that there is a critical time element I must meet and to order the wrong thread size rack would put everything out od whack wherein the return transit time and acquisition of the right part, installation of the part, etc would be too late to make alternate plans

There should be just two choices.
As I recall Mid-1982 and earlier use the larger size. Later cars use the smaller size. If I have time later I'll try to confirm that 100% if nobody else chimes in
Or try Googling "Jaguar tie rod size" or similar
If you somehow end up with the wrong size, just get new outer tie rod ends to match! Should be available in 24 hours at any parts store, I'm thinking
Cheers

With some Googling and parts book checking I think I've nailed it down.
VIN 345391 and later use the smaller tie rod, part number JLM9660, apprx 12.7mm thread/shaft diameter
VIN 345390 and earlier use the larger tie rod, JLM9726, apprx 16mm diameter
Apparently there is backwards/forwards compatibility on the racks....providing you use corresponding tie rod ends
Cheers
