hi: i finally found the illusive idle adjustment hex headed screw buried in the engine. i read someone modified a 7/32 allen wrench so i did it too. the following pics might help the next xj6 owner looking to adjust their idle:

 

changed the bend from 90 degrees to approx. 45 degrees using a vise and a small pipe
