Usb / cig lighter voltage

Usb / cig lighter voltage
do the wired-in USB plug replacing cig lighters on the dash step down the voltage? most USB devices only require about 5.2 volt, I have damaged an old phone by pushing as much as 12 volt through a USB plug to it and my wired-in USB plug on the dash puts out about 5.0 volt.
the power going into it as I checked today was 12.2 from the battery.
i was wanting to wire additional bared USB sockets (pin 1,4) but would obvious need to step down the volts.

I use a dual USB charging port from Blue Sea Systems
I put them into the center console bin - in the lower RH corner so it clears the windows switches. I tap into the cigarette lighter two wires.. it only needs battery voltage and ground from a spade connection. It has a flip up cover but I leave two cables plugged for immediate use... it never runs down the battery.
Just drill a large hole and screw the device into place.. hook up the two wires and you are ready to go... they have a model with a panel mount but I wanted to retain the Jaguar look.
They work fine and output is 5V 2.1A. It has a Green LED to show it is working..

Had never heard of Jaycar before
I looked at the stuff they sell.. impressive. There are many of the type that push into the cigarette lighter or some that can be wired in place.
But the one I used fits into a hole about 11/16" I drilled into the lower right corner of the console bin, has a flip up cover and LED. It is threaded on the outside and is held in place with a large plastic nut... comes with a dash panel should you want it out exposed. The cables just come out under the console lid and you can place your device where you want.
Will take a better photo today and show it in place and working...

AKA phone chargers that plug into the cigar lighter outlet!! I think. CAVEAT, not my strong suite, electrics that is. I think fairly well.
I salvaged the "trickle charge" board from a defunct jump box. Battery pooped early on. As is usual, buying anew battery
for it made little sense.
110 v in. Forgot what I measured as the out volts. Far less than 12v.
Made a box added wires. Tested on my wounded bench battery. It works.
