v12 engine

Depends.... Is it a high compression Euro v12 flat head? If so...it has some value here in the USA where that engine was rare. Shipping cost would be prohibitive so the rods and piston would be easier to move on.
If it's an early 5.3 HE... It not worth much unless someone near by just so happens to need one at the time your selling.

It's really hard to speak for AUS. In the US people list them for $1,000-1,200 all the time, and they are sort of worth that in a sense, but in another, things are only worth what people are willing to pay.
There really aren't that many people out there looking for a Jag V12, so they regularly sit at a high price or sell at a lower price when the right person comes along. I got a steal on one at $100, but I would expect to buy one for closer to $500.
Is it possible to look at eBay and filter by previously sold listings to get an idea of what they sell for? I hear Aussies use GumTree a good bit but I'm not sure if you can do a similar history search.
