Default Weird Electrical Problem SIII

I just installed my new dash and replaced the electrical wiring but may have done something wrong. Here's my problem:

Car will not start, fuel pump seems to be engaging but that's about it
My odometer scrolls as if I'm going 100mph
I had something called a VDO which seems to be a aftermarket cruise control system but I cut the wire to the control unit...could that be the culprit or did I miss a wire or two?

Can you elaborate a bit on what you replaced exactly?

Hmmm.

Could be a umber of thigs but you gotta start somewhere, so.....

Do you have B+ voltage on the solid brown wire to the ignition switch? The the main constant voltage supply.

With the key turned to "start" do you have B+ voltage on the white/yellow wire at the ignition switch? That's the wire that energizes the starter relay.

While you there....the white and/or white/pink wires at the ignition switch should have B+ voltage with the key "on"

Which usually suggest a lack of voltage such as weak battery or excessive voltage drop from a poor connection

Hard to say but my gut feeling is "no".

I just replaced the veneer wood dash with a newer one, that's the only thing I switched out. I'll check the wiring again and report back

ah ha! found the culprit it's the purple & white / Purple & green wire off of the ignition switch that wasn't connected....where does that go again? can't find the connecting wires

Purp/white goes to the courtesy lamp circuit...the door switch, specifically....to the igntion lock cylinder. I think there's a little tab on the bottom of the ignition lock cylinder to attached the wire. I think this is for the "key in igntion" and seat belt warning buzzer.

Purp/green goes to the ignition switch (or ignition lock cylinder) as well but I can't really remember how it attaches. Perhaps similarly to the purp/white? It eventually leads to the seat belt logic module/buzzer

Offhand I don't think this would casue a no start situation but it's been quite awhile since I did any rooting around in that neck o'the woods.

Cheers

after a couple of hours of trying everything I figured it out with your help, thanks Doug! I hate the wiring in this car but it fired right up and works perfectly now. I think the previous owner had some of the wiring redone thus the colors not matching but you led me in the right direction.

Next project is getting the vacuum lines replaced, wish me luck!
