Default What is this part?

Hello all!

I have a 1986 xj6 that just had new valve cover gaskets installed. We noticed that on the drivers side above the valve cover, there is a hose with some sort of valve that appears to be part of the emmisions system. The valve is rusted through. What is this valve called....and where can I get a new one?

Also, there is a component attached to the outside (passengers side) of my coil that is smoking while the car is running. Is that component and the coil one unit, and what is that component called? What is the best source to replace this/ and or the whole coil?

Thanks much,
Randy

1) Air injection check valve. Most auto parts stores will have a reasonable substitute. It's the same as used on many 70s-80s GM cars but there are a couple different thread and nipple sizes so take the old one with you.

2) That's a resistor that bolted to the "+" post of the coil. You can take it off and throw it in the trash if you want. Or not. Most likely the coil is leaking oil and it's blowing onto the resistor and burning off. What you probably need is a new coil. FWIW I recommend a Lucas DLB170 but any 12v coil with about 1.0 ohm primary resistance will work

Cheers

Hi Randy....

I just picked up a truckload of NOS parts, and in it was one of those check valves...
Let me know if you'd like a OEM one, for cheap... (I've removed all the emissions stuff off my XJs...)

Sure!.... if the price is right.

I found one for $5.94 at Jaguar Xj6 Air Check Valve - 1972 - 1987 1986 1985

...but shipping is over $13.00 according to them shipping UPS.

my zip is 81252 ..... you can probably beat the shipping by using the regular postal service. I don't need it expedited or anything like that.

Send me an email, and I do have pay pal if thats OK.

Thanks,
Randy
