What size speakers?
im still farting about in garage and im looking at the speakers in my rear doors, thinking that before i reassemble the car when i get it back, i would like to put same speakers in the front as i have in the rear doors, All the books and online stuff calls for 4 inch speakers in the doors, when i replaced the rear ones years ago i bought kenwood 5 1/4 speakers, trimmed off the mounting ears and drilled new holes in the ring around the outside, worked great, no interference with the speaker movement or any ill effects on sound.
Is anyone actually using 4 inch speakers that sound decent? I remember installing a set in the very beginning but removing them and adding the kenwoods due to it sounding like i was listening to music played in a paper cup..
So wotcha got? and do ya like it???

Yup, four new Alpine SPS-410 in the doors (just running off the head unit) and a Kenwood KSC-SW11 under the passenger seat for the bottom end. Maybe not audiophile-level but it's the best sound I've had in any car--very clean throughout the volume range.

Speakers and bass
I installed Boston Acoustics in the doors (stock size) and a Kenwood KWS10 bass unit which I mounted on the rear parcel shelf between the middle stoplight and the back seat headrests (I have a VDP with headrests on the rear seats).
The bass is controlled with a remote switch which is located in the center console.
I have a Nakamichi CD400 head unit that also allows me to fine tune the bass.
No big thumping,.. just very good sound throughout the range.

But the beauty of the setup that Alyn and I have is that you can easily crank the sub independently of the door speakers if you like. I find the head unit's 4x18W RMS to be more than enough to drive the 4" speakers (not the original head unit, which has no sub output and only puts out down to about 100Hz anyway).
