Where to find the right manuals for 1986 XJ6
Hello all,
I am brand new to the world of Jaguars - I bought my first one, a 1986 XJ6 which is not currently running, and working on getting it into my garage this weekend. I had the luck of finding it in Arizona without a spec of rust! Will post pics once I get it home and begin restoration work.
Step one for me is find a quality service manual. Which manuals are the right ones to get for this car, and the best source? I've only worked on American cars in the past so this will be a new adventure. Can't wait to get started!
Bill

Welcome, and congrats on your Jag!
The stickied threads on this forum have a lot of screenshots from the manual, so you can start there. I would recommend a Jaguar XJ6 Series III (that’s what you have) shop manual like this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/31350617568...3ABFBMsPbOs7di
This particular seller did take a looong time to ship mine, but price was good.
Highly recommend the YouTube channel “Living with a Classic”- the guy has a 70s XJ, but a lot of similarities to your car, and great step by step videos for upper engine work.
In short order, I’d recommend looking into a stakedown kit (stakes down the tappet sleeves on the exhaust manifold side), and inspecting all the fuel injection rubber under the hood- if it’s old and leaks can be a bad deal.
I myself have been daily driving a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado before recently getting a non-running (but now running!) 1987 XJ6, so a few terminology changes for you to avoid offending the Jag;
Hood=Bonnet
Trunk=boot
People on this forum are great if you have any questions.
Enjoy!!

The Jaguar parts catalogs can also be very helpful. You can almost use them as assembly guides
You can buy paper versions or look at them online:
