wire wheels.. worth it or not???

No one has mention one crucial bit of information: Jaguar itself warned against fitting wire wheels to the XJ - the car is too heavy and the forces on the wire wheels too great.
I have chromed wires on my Mk 2 but would never have considered fitting them to my XJ cars. And yes, they are a pain to keep clean but when they are clean they look great.

My '94 XJS had beautiful Dayton wire rims when I bought it. They were dated 1993. But while they looked flawless, they were loaded with probably 5X the weights of a normal wheel - front, back, inner, outer. Car was undriveable above 65mph; felt like it would shake apart.
So I swapped them out for Teardrops I scored on eBay for $150 (shipped!}. Drives perfect now. My tire guy said the wires would be impossible to balance. Plus, they weighed over 30lbs.
I won't, in good conscience, try to sell them on eBay for more than $200. Maybe I'll practice my welding skills and make lamps or a coffee table out of them
