Default XJ^ Series 3 neutral switch wiring schematic

I am placing a BW66 transmission into a MK2. There is a rotary switch on the left side of the transmission which is rotated by the gear selector lever shaft.

This rotary switch has 4 wires. Can anyone supply me with the schematic for detailing where these wires co?

Thanks

Bob

2 wires are for the P/N start inhibitor and the other 2 are for the reverse lamps.

The P/N wires will 'make contact' in 2 places (Park and Neutral) and the other 2 wires will be closed circuit in only one position (Reverse).

Should not be hard to figure out.

The electrical diagram for the Series III XJ6 is ALL ON ONE PAGE so it is very difficult to read. I have a copy in .pdf but is pretty useless.

The S57 Wiring Guide is very good, far better than the old style all-on-one-page diagrams.

Go to the "How To" thread at the top of this section. You'll see a link to the "S57 Wiring Diagrams"

Yes as Doug says the S57 publication is something anyone with a Jaguar XJ6 car should not be without. Electrical circuits are broken down into sections and very easy to understand /trace wires.

Ditto:

I've treasured mine from early on. I can handle this one,
the Jaguar factory copies in my deposed Haynes merely
confuse me.

Default thanks

I appreciate the detailed and informative responses. I will have to include this into the new "updated" wiring harness.

It appears the BW66 I have uses an electric speedo sender. I will have to locate a mechanical replacement. BW65? Then I will have to see if that sender is compatible with the original MK2 speedo.

I also have to get the steering column hand gear selector to function with the BW66. As far as I can determine there is more travel required for the BW66. I should know better today if the cable I have attached will work.

It isn't that the BW66 uses an electric speedo. Rather, after xxx-breakpoint the cars using the BW66 used an electric speedo.

The transducer for the electric speedo screws onto the transmission in exactly the same place and manner as an old fashioned speedo cable. So, ditch the transducer and simply attach your speedo cable.

At some point you'll need to calibrate the speedo....which might well mean changing one or both speedometer gear at the transmission....but that's a different matter.

Or by various means determine real speed vs what the speedo reads.
Mental calculation as necessary.

That is what I do, for a different reason. speed 49 is real 25 in my lump!!

I have the fix, but, don't want to "open the patient" again to mess with the electrics, in this case a plug into the PCM!!

CA's Prop 103 mandates insurance premium be partly on miles.
Just went through a "process' with my carrier. Resolved with help of a really good agent. some would not bother, merely pleased to get the bucks.
