Hi
The dashboard on my XJ12 S2 is in need of renovation. As far as I understand it should be walnut burl veneer. I havent managed to find it close by to reasonable price and to buy a completely new dashboard is also quite expensive.
What I can do almost for free is to use a teak veneer that is lying around (see sample of this, second picture). Typically used on boats I think…?
What do you think? Would that fit to black interior car? Is it sacrilegious i.e. will I get stoned at next jaguar event? =)

You can buy sheets of veneer - walnut, maple, etc - and chose a pattern you like, some are not at all pricey, and then just clean up the old wood and glue the veneer onto it. e.g. https://www.veneersupplies.com/produ...s-Per-Lot.html
Hi, here's another link to the same company listed above showing the really nice burl selection. I plan on ordering some from them in the near future to refinish one of my extra dashboards. The regular dash should not be much trouble, on Series 3's the curved metal switch panel ....looks to be a different story ! I'll let everyone know when I get to trying it this spring.
Your car, your choice. But I would question the taste of anyone that painted over the wookwork.
If you go to a woodworking store you can see some amazing pieces of veneer. I personally think teak would look good. One of the Bentley models came with teak wood.
One of the posts above mentioned the curves in the switch panel. If you are talking about the Series3 panel with the gas tank switchover, it's not a curved piece of veneer - it is two flat pieces with the strip in between being painted black. This little video I made shows it clearly.
Hi Yellow 3,
Neat trick of using hose to replace the "push pin" nuts or whatever they are really called. What I think might be tricky about re-veneering the switch panel is getting the veneer to curve at the ends / sides while making a clean even edge . I'll post some pics of one that I'm going to try and repair / refinish the original wood. I've never worked with thin veneer, so it might be easy or a total PITA ! I'll make a thread when I jump in that pool.
