XJ12C value for all original car
I'm a newbee at this forum, and I have a 1976 XJ12C almost all original, except the radio, the ingintion system is now Accel and have the original Lucas system. And the vinyl top has been removed. It has 55,000 miles original. I am the second owner purchased from Jack Wolf Jaquars in Manhattan in 1977. It had 6,000 mile on it. Owned it ever since. The car I would classify as very good original condition; considering what I have seen the C's to look like, but you might call only good conditon. It has minor surface rust showing under the paint in a few tiny spots. Runs great with original engine & transmission.
I am thinking of selling it and want to know how much the car is worth. I was thinking somewhere between $22,000 and $28,000. Am I even close?

Without seeing it, it's hard to guess. What sort of shape is the interior in? However, based on the description you've given, I doubt you'd break $10,000, between $5-8,000 is probably more realistic.
Surface rust usually means a lot more is hidden underneath and most buyers will run from a car like that.

I am inclined to agree with the other fellows, unfortunately. I was hunting for a nice XJC for a long time so I've looked at lots. A lot of the ones I considered were overseas but I'm jaded that way now having bought my XJ downunder when I lived there. Some surface rust may be an indicator but a deterrent for me oddly enough is the missing vinyl roof. To me it says respray with no thought of originality - just make it shiny again.
What you do have on the plus side is that it is a V12 car. Having said that, in order to command the $22k - $28k dollars it would need to be a Daimler Double Six coupe in exceptional condition with a Wabasto sliding canvas roof. Those were the rarest of the breed.
I think 6-9 K is close to the mark.

Here is a photo of the car taken this summer, and a link to more. The car is a little dusty as you can make out on the interior shots; the leather is not shiny and only needs to be wiped down. The rust spots I spoke about are a few bubbles in the paint that cannot be seen in any photo. Do these photos change anyone's mind?

Even at first glance I *think* I'm seeing rust in front of the LH rear tire.
Again, not meaning to offend, but to bring the money you have in mind would take an *exceptionally* pristine example (which I don't see in your car) and even then you'd probably have to wait for "just the right buyer" to come along.
Cheers

That's not an all original car -- missing its vinyl roof. Not one of the most desirable colors either.
I would agree that to command anything near a $20K price, the car would have to be perfect. If it was perfect AND original, like straight out of the showroom with its original paint, interior, vinyl roof, wheels, etc. it might bring into the high $20's. People these days pay extra for extreme originality.

Hi Easydesk
The car looks pretty good, but its only one picture. If you can post a few more and much closer to the car, better-informed comments can be made.
The problem with these Coupes is that Jaguar never really sorted them out. Only a few thousand were ever made, and they were a fairly flawed car to start with. My neighbour in Birmingham had a nice one and I remember going to a Jaguar rally at Blenheim Palace in it.
The worst aspect is rust in the rear sill area. This is because on a 4-door, the rear door window lets water into the door, but on the coupe it lets it into the bodyshell and (worse still), directly into the sill area. Yes, there are drains but these block-up and anyway, rust proofing was extremely poor. The 70s in the UK was a decade of madness, and it shows in the contemporary cars we made in the Midlands, (Jaguar, Austin, Rover, Land Rover etc). Quality was crap frankly, and Jaguars were no exception.
If it's a V12, it is a pretty rare car, and your pic shows it in a nice warm place where there may not be a lot of salt put down on the highways in winter. So the car may have survived a lot better than cars here in England. So it will be worth good money, but not as much as you might think. What helps a sale of an old car like this is evidence of care and attention over the years. So records of work and service are of great importance, and can put 000s onto the price
However, I wish you well in selling it and I hope it goes to a good home and the new owner keeps the V12 in it.

I didn't think they mated a manual trans to the 5.3. That's wicked awesome.

The paranoia about rust is typical amongst Brits. I was the same when I lived in the UK. I understand there is some rust on your car and I can believe it if the car is from Florida that it may not be terminal.
I think you have to live away from that damp little island for a while to get away from that paranoia. Having lived in places like San Diego and Arizona, the comments about rust are important but not to the degree stated. Its amazing what you'll find over here in nice climates- especially when kept away from the salt and damp.
