I can't remember but someone will come along soon, no doubt.
There are actually a couple arrows on the switch, illuminated by little light bulb, to tell you left or right. Problem is, it's probably burned out and, even if it isn't, the glow is pathetically weak....so you might miss it.
On the side of teh switch there is a white stripe with either and "L" or an "R" written on it. If it isn't worn away it'll be visible only when the button is out.
Cheers

Yeah, I learned a lot here and there. For a time, I had a note in the cubby. Left in, right, out!!
Early on in my ownewrship late wife and I were on the way to church early one Sunday morning. In the middle of a busy intersection, the new toy gassped asnd hesitated!!! An epiphany struck me and I tapped the selector ! The trusty jaguar resumed power and we got to church on time. A higher power, no doubt!!
At about that time, we still had the 85 Ford 4x4 pickup. It was blessed with dual tanks. Didn't realize that til the forst time I went to the gas station!! That system allowed a seamless transition as one tank went empty!!
But, too late for Ford to export that expertise to the XJ6 line !

Hi Guys
My gas tank on my 77 XJ6 is clogged. I am contemplating removing both tanks, and cleaning them out.
Question is: How do I get them out? Where are they?? I assume they are in the rear fenders?
The reason for my ignorance, is that I have owned the car for only a month now, and am still finding my way around it.
Regards
Peter

Yes, one in each rear quarter panel But, is it the tanks that are clogged or merely the line?
There are large drain plugs behind the valences that can be reached by removing plugs.
Have a large container to catch the old fuel. Have new o rings and sock filters available.
Open all the lines in the boot and replace the filters and rubber lines. Blow all lines free with compressed air, Tank forward is best.
Clean or replace the pump/s.
A lot of work but simpler and easier than pulling both tanks. And, even if you did, this would be a good idea anyway.

Honestly its not so hard to pull the tanks. I pulled mine out and had them dipped and coated. i also changed out the sender units for the guage. If you access the panels and remove the large plugs you can flush the tank without too much difficulty as well. Expect to change the internal filters, right above the drain plug housings. If you decide to proceed, send me a message and I can send some pics to get you started.

Hi.
I've just cleared the lines with compressed air, put in a new fuel pump, and the only way I can get the old bird to fire up, is if I spray "quick start" into the carbs. I think the only thing to do is pull the tanks. I'd love those pics.
