1. Does the later rail interfere with the A/C compressor? Ie did you have to modify the rail and or the compressor to get them to fit?

2. How bad was your hot starting issue? Would it just not start? Or it started after a few tries?

3. I assume you used one of the original fuel pressure regulators as the later rail version runs at too high a pressure ?
1. No, I did not have to mess with the air compressor or the rail. It was a tight fit.

2. Hot starting issue was unbearable. Once the car got to operating temperature, if I had to stop the car, it would not start again, period. Once it cooled down, it was no problem. I wired the fuel pump circuit on a switch so that I could recycle cold gas from the tank through the old fuel rails to kill any vapor locks for a minute or two before being able to start the car again. It was not a perfect solution but it helped.

3. I used one of the original fuel pressure regulators. They are adjustable. I fitted a fuel pressure gauge as well and adjusted it correctly. It really worked like a charm!

@Lagonia

Thanks a lot for the info......... did you reuse the existing fuel injectors? Or you also take the ones from the later rail?

I used the existing ones. No need to change injectors.

Very good price! I had a FP gauge made for my c3 vette, the guy charged me $75 just for this same sender... thought I recognized it.

Default Progress !

After fitting another new fuel pump (after installing a fuel filter before the pump) I finally got stable fuel pressure.

The car covered a staggering 6 miles and was running continuously for 30 minutes. Temps were good, oil pressure and voltage were good.

Tomorrow I will set the fuel pressure correctly and I am hopeful that will give us stable enough performance to go try for SMOG.

It's been a good day....

So.... We couldnt go for SMOG because we didnt have rear brakes, and the cage needed to come out anyway, so..... today was rear cage removal fun and games.

The only thing that didnt go perfect was the rear mufflers would not seperate from the up and over pipes, such was the corrosion at the joint. Eventually we had to cut them to get the cage out. They were blowing a bit anyway so would probably have had to be replaced at some point.

Admittedly my experience with these things is limited, but that's a Mess!!
I wonder why you didn't have rear brakes? Sheesh!!

Rhonda, my wrecking yard IRS, looks Considerably better.

Agree it's not pretty. The reality is the corrosion is only surface rust on the cage itself so it will clean up nicely. We will replace all brake parts, including the lines. We will also do the shocks and springs. Diff will get flushed and refilled only. It appears to be the correct one as it is tagged "PL" which we believe signifies "PowerLock" or LSD.

A bit crusty, but, a power wash session can do a lot.

SMOG test! Yuk. Beware. I took my Jaguar in Oct. A young
apprentice tech referred to my lump as a 'frankenstein' car.
And, told me it failed the 'snap throttle test" and as such would probably fail the full formal test on the dyno with sniffer on???
Didn't make a lot of sense to me. so, I left.

I went to another test place. Car and power plant admired. Business like approach, no "snide' comments. No "snap throttle test" either.
Passed with flying colors !!! Good for another two years, despite the wishes of a now gone legislator, she wanted a test every year!!! Good riddance.

Jeep up in April, ugh....

@jagcad

We have a Jaguar sympathetic SMOG tester lined up. He did raise the valid safety concern that not having rear brakes and coming off the dyno for whatever reason may not end well, hence the cage pull

Agree. It's probably the worst part of the car. The car was driven once in snow, and although it was "thoroughly washed down", it appears it wasnt cleaned above the rear cage, and the result after 20 years is what you see. I have already degreased the cage and it looks 1000% better than it did. Now for some POR15......

Sorry I missed your post. PMed you also

This is the vacuum hose kit I got. We have plenty left over. It comes in other colors also (just search the sellers shop)

Thanks Scott. I looked at their other items and see the same kit, it doesn't specify that they are high pressure to be uses for fuel lines, but you said they worked ok for you?
Thanks,
Veso

new shocks and 4 back springs. ready to be installed this weekend.

the new springs have green and red paint marks on them. I'm hoping it doesn't harsh and the ride of the coupe or raise it to much. I had a height problem when I installed new springs on my xjs a couple months back.

Thanks for this!
I wondered if the new spring-over shocks I have here might raise the rear of my car, so I have been holding off in installing them.

I might have to look into new bare shocks instead.
