Default Leaping Jaguar Hood Ornament aftermarket on XJS?

Heh guys

Just wondering if somebody could tell me whether or not the leaping jaguar hood ornament was brought out on the XJS?

I have seen a few in my travels with the hood ornament on there, however most i see have the circular badge instead.

After market add on? If so, would you do it or not?

Oh no, this usually goes 15 rounds.

The XJS never had a "leaper" leave the factory in its entire 21 years of production. Any time you see one it is 100% aftermarket, in every case, bar none.

Some people prefer the leaper.
others prefer the "growler", which is what you refer to as the "circular badge".
A few even do both.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'll leave it at that.

Isnt the growler recessed into the hood, opposed to secured on top of hood.

The growler is not recessed into the hood, it sits atop a rubber gasket.

As said, NOT from the factory.

I saw a snap a looooooong time ago, and simply could not resist.

Default Leaper VS. badge debate

I would never put a leaper on my XJS. Not that they look bad or anything like that. I just enjoy the look on people s faces when I tell them it's a Jag. A leaper would give it away. I live in Vegas and actually had some guys running along side me asking me questions about it while crusing the strip. I also have an old Vette and it doesn't get NEAR the attention I get with my XJS.

i don't have a big preference one way or the other, but gunner, your car looks so clean and classy, and the leaper suits it.

also, that tear-drop shaped mounting base looks a lot sleeker than the big and clunky round base leapers i've seen on some xjs's.

Thanks, I enjoy the car soooo much, it's awesome to cruise in and the XJS's get more looks and comments than many more expensive cars out there.

I often return to my car when I'm out and catch someone taking a picture of it...LOL
At this point I have less that $5000 into even with new body and paint.

Default Leaper

I've got to admit that teardrop on your leaper looks pretty awesome! Also those wheels are a must, I have the OTHER wheels and want the chrome version of yours.

Personal preference. To me, the leaper ruins the sweep of the hood / bonnet. To each his own.

guys I have noticed that some people have both the growler and the leaper on the hood. I think if it were me I would either do one or the other. Gunner, impressive car mate. Did you have the growler removed and put the leaper in the exact place, or move it up a little?

Also, how do these hood ornaments attach? Bolt through?

Again guys I am a pre jag owner so just doing the knowledge. Sorry for the silly questions lol!

The leaper looks out of place on the XJS. It looks like someone put it there just to make sure everyone knows they have a Jaguar in case some don't recognize the XJS as such.

Paul, it's only a silly question if you already know the answer.

Paul, the Leaper and the Growler, at least in my situation are in the same location. I use the same holes one is just a locating pin so the badge or Leaper doesn't spin and the other is about a 3/4" hole. I did have to open the large hole slightly to fit the leaper.

I get that not everyone will like the leaper, it may be too flashy or brash, and some may think I'm over compensating for some anatomical short comings, and I may be.
To me it's not a Jag without the leaper or quad headlights.

Mine has been there for sooooo long I forgot all that "proper" stuff long ago.

I like both versions, and the Red car simply looks better for ME with the leaper, and since its the BIG one from Bill Tracy (USA), it stands out.

So much so, the enforcement people (police) down here are more worried about stray pedestrians getting violated, bring it on.

I agree with you. Also, if it looked good, I think Jaguar would have installed those at the factory. Sorry guys but I just do not like the look of the leaper on the XJS... It does look good on a XJ6, sedan, etc...
