Newbie,just joined up - XJS 3.6 won't start
Hi everyone,names john,
I have an 89 xjs 3.6 jag,the other day started it pulled out the garage and it just died,
after a lot of searching, and still am.the fuel pump doesn't work when you turn ignition on,so checked inersher switch which was down,so went to check fuel pump relay and couldn't find it anywhere. Looked near the main relay which in the book says is adjacent to it,which doesn't seem the case,
struggling like mad with it,anybody any ideas,
many thanks john.

Hmmm. Just to possibly clarify a bit and perhaps save you some head scratching, the pump isn't intended to run by simply turning the key 'on'.
The V12 cars have a 'prime' feature which runs the pump for 2-3 seconds when the key is turned 'on', but then the pump shuts off and remains off until the starter is engaged and/or the ECU commands it to be turned on.
I'm not sure if the 3.6 system is set up the same way but, even if it isn't, I'm sure the pump is not intended to come on, and remain running, simply because the key is 'on'.
I'm not saying you *don't* have a fuel pump/pump circuit problem but I don't want to to waste time or face addtional struggles by expecting a result that was never intended to occur, that's all. :-)
Cheers

I believe you are correct, the 3.6 is configured the same way as the V12.
