Rusted screws

Rusted screws
Just received my quad US style headlight conversion I bought in US on ebay. Very happy
But when I tried to remove the screws from the mounts of the Euro style lights they are all rusted and so tight like they're welded to the body! I was only able to remove 1 of 12 screws
Any tips?
Thx Fred

From memory, these are the setscrews that hold the fixing springs in place?
If so, and again from memory, it is very easy to round off the pozidrive screwdriver locating/driving cross in the top of them. If this has happened, or does happen, and if the penetrating oil does not work, as the last resort, get a small angle grinder and grind the heads off. Then punch a dot in the middle of the threaded bit stuck in the fitting, and then drill it out. You will not need these fittings for the quads, so half wrecking them will not matter too much.

You are correct. They hold the plates with the springs. But I think the same wholes in exactle the same place have to be used to fit the quad ... so I think wrecking them is no option

Make sure to buy a set of PoziDrive screwdrivers as they will prevent a lot of headaches in the future. I know I had a tough time tracking down a set in a store so I purchased mine off of amazon. I got the 4 piece Gearwrench set 80061 for about $20, this has all but the largest pz4 bit which is only needed for the couple screws on the v12 engine. I really like the set as it is really good quality and half the price of any other set I could find. It even has a flat portion so you can put a wrench on them if you need extra torque to remove the screw.

From memory the chassis that holds the quads fixes in different threaded holes from the one piece spring clips. Worth checking to see, if it becomes absolutely necessary.
By the way, Steve in France, I am a great believer in 50-50 acetone and ATF as a de-seizing remedy! I heard about it and tried it on the manifold to downpipe studs and nuts. 24 hours later they came free astonishingly easily.
