Default 1986 XJSC-Nardi Torino steering wheel and more-- Advice!

Hi everyone,

Few questions. This is in reference to a 1986 grey market german-spec XJSC. If you read the "VIN Questions" thread from a few days ago, this is the same car.

Went and looked at it today, and it appears to be in excellent shape. One thing I noticed is that the car was fitted with a Nardi Torino wood-rimmed wheel. I've looked on eBay, and some are being offered online from $1k-$3k! I've seen them on E-Types but never on an XJS before.. was this wheel a stand alone option, part of some kind of performance package, aftermarket add-on? Any clues would be great! See pic below.

Secondly, the underside of the car appeared to be covered with a rough-black textured material. Is this some kind of sealant? I didn't see any rust anywhere else on the car, really, which is remarkable. Floor pans are fine. Just mild surface rust. Car has brand new Pirelli tires, shocks, a set of new-old stock Starfish rims, re-done fabirc on the Cabriolet roof and new headliner, original bags for the Targa tops. Air con recently recharged and fan motors replaced. Paint is about a 10-12 year old re-paint showing a little age but overall good shape. Interior carpet and fabric in good, original shape. Veneer needs to be re-done. Wipers and reverse lights in-operable, guessing this isn't a major problem. Appeared to run smoothly. See link below for pictures. I think its in good shape.

Now this is the problem. The car is located in Flushing, MI.. tiny town. I don't know any Jag mechanics in the area for an inspection, or any in Michigan at all. And I'm not familiar enough with the 5.3 to trust myself looking over it. So what should I do here? Any and all opinions welcome. I've contacted JCNA for advice as well for a mechanic in the area.

Price is $8,500.

I would think that the steering wheel was added by a PO. Black stuff is called underseal and if done when new has save the floor pan from rust. New Pirelli tires are expensive, new wheels etc. I would tell them to fix the wipers....jeeeeez what do you want for 8 grand. don't worry be happy. .......

The steering wheel with hub and horn was a popular dealer installed aftermarket option. It is however not a jaguar item just like Dayton wire wheels. The prices you saw have been on eBay for years and have never sold. The normal price I see for a good condition wheel, horn button, and hub is in the $175 to $350 range.
