1987 Jaguar - top switch
I just purchased a 1987 Jaguar convertible. When I tested the top switch it worked just fine. When I needed to put the top up a few days later the switch would not work. It works fine putting the top down, but not up. Has anyone had this problem? Do I just need to replace the switch?

or.....
(Assuming you have your parking brake on)
It is often the switch thats gone wonky. I had a similar problem with one of my window switches, ie it would drive the window up but not down again.
It's easy to remove the switch from the console, just pry it out gently, then unplug the wiring harness.
The quick and dirty way to clean it is to squirt WD40 everywhere, but its fairly simple to take the switch apart and clean the contacts. I just rubbed mine with light emery paper to make the contacts shiny again. (They had gotten quite a lot of carbon build up on them)
