1988 Jaguar H&E Convertible

1988 Jaguar H&E Convertible
I am going to look at a 1988 Hess & Eisenhardt ? convertible tomorrow.
There are no emblems indicating that it is a H&E model
How would I know this for sure?
The car does not run.
V12.
Pictures show the body in decent shape. No rust that I can see.
What should I be looking for on this particular model as far as rust go?
I understand that the H&E model was prone to rusting due to water collecting at the rear of the car. Where? I do not know.
I am not afraid of the mechanical issues the car may have, I can fix that.
My major concern is hidden rust in the rear quarter panels.
If anyone has knowledge of the weaknesses of this particular model. I would be interested in hearing from you.
Thanks.

That is an H&E. Quarterlights on front door, stainless trim around rear edge of convertible top, and a painted stripe above windshield are all give always.
Rust is extra prevalent in H&E in cavity below the rear electric windows. All other things dual XJS rust rules apply.
I have an H&E too. No extra value/worth/demand over what a factory convertible goes for. For any person seeking an H&E I’d imagine three are avoiding it. They were not universally good cars.

It is not that the H&E model is anything special to me. As far as I am concerned it's just another XJS.
I am just concerned about some of the particular rust issues on the H&E car.
I read that there are issues with the split fuel tanks and the rust as mentioned in your post.
Just curious. that's all.

I bought the car this morning. Has a few rust spots on the right rear quarter panel which was what I expected.
The bonnet has more rust than the quarter panel.
I am in the market for a used bonnet.
Anyone parting out a 1988 or compatible XJS?
I will need to purchase a good bonnet .
Will post pics when the car arrives tomorrow.

@jagsandmgs:
Can you please furnish me with the part numbers for the Chevy S10 lift pump and the Rochester valve that you used on your car?
FOLLOW UP:
Being a glutton for punishment, I picked up the car a week ago knowing the following:
The engine was dismantled by someone prior to the PO. He bought the car 4 years ago with the intention of putting another engine because the body was in decent shape. It never came off his car trailer. Second photo shows the car still on the trailer with the car cover.
In the engine compartment:
I found all of the electrical harness disconnected and not tagged.
No radiator, coolant hoses and pipes.
No water pump.
No fuel injectors and fuel rail.
No Intake plenums.
No AC compressor, condenser, dryer or hoses
Seized throttle linkages.
Basically, I purchased a rolling shell and I am not going to source the missing parts to put the V12 back together, not knowing whether the rest of the engine is any good.
THE 3 MONTH PLAN: PURISTS, DO NOT READ.
Service the existing dual tank fuel system. Replace the fuel pumps.
Install LT1/4L60E.
I already placed an order with Jaguar Specialties for the install kit and other required parts.
After installation, get a driveshaft made.
I also ordered seat covers from Lseat. They should be here in 3 weeks.
I picked all of the interior trim and carpets from a car at the JY.
That's it for now.
Beside jagsandmgs, Does anyone know which replacement fuel pump works for the tank inside the car?

Odd comment??
Seems like an odd thing to say. The fellow here is enthusiastic about getting a unusual XJS back on the road rather than it ending up as scrap. At the end of the day, isn't that what we all want? Or did I miss something??

JUNKYARD????? Is that the kind of encouragement you get from the NE part of the country?
Because it needs an engine and the fuel system refurbished to get it going?
You just gave me an additional 100% motivation to keep this car on the road.
Thank you for the part numbers
Is this the car fit for the junkyard?

Maybe the moderator will send a nice note to Jagsandmgs reminding him that the forum is here to support all Jag enthusiasts and to perhaps keep comments like that to himself.....

Sanchez, good luck with your project. The car looks great ,including the top. Your plan is a sensible one. As you know the V12 when in good shape, is not the main problem, though a transplant will gain more power and better mileage. We XjS owners have to support each other. I'll be keeping an eye on your progress. Again best wishes on your project.

UPDATE:
I removed both fuel tanks from the car today. Both tanks are in decent condition.
The surge tank was in good condition so I just ordered a fuel filter for it.
I dropped the 2 main tanks off at my local radiator repair shop to have them cleaned. I am getting the tanks back on Saturday.
The sender unit in the lower tank (inside car) was broken but I was able to locate one on EBAY and I purchased it.
The upper tank and sender assembly were in good condition.
I also purchased the fuel lift pump using the part #(Carter P74096) provided to me by Jagsandmgs and I should have it by tomorrow.
This is the pump used on the Ford Bronco.
A new external fuel pump and filter is on order from Welshent. That should be here on Monday.
All that is left to do is blow out the fuel supply and return lines, re-install the tanks and the fuel system service will be complete by next Wednesday.

Fuel tanks are back from the radiator shop. They were boiled out, sealed and pressure tested.
The black paint on the outside is POR15.
I have already prepped the area in the car where the tanks go. Cleaned and applied POR15.
I am waiting on the lift pump and the fuel sender unit for the tank inside the car.
