My installed LT1 conversion is up and running, but none of my gauges work.
I am using the OEM harness together with a harness pigtail I purchased from Jaguar Spec.
It would seem that there is a short to ground as it keeps blowing the #4 5amp fuse for the Panel Instruments/Reverse lamps.
I broke up the circuits in pieces to try to find the short.
I unplugged the 8 pin connector in the engine bay. Result. Blown fuse.
I unplugged the 8 pin connector inside the car that plugs in at the right side kick panel. Result. Blown fuse.
I unplugged the Reverse Lamp Circuit. Result. Blown fuse.
Testing the individual circuits, there is a green wire that connects to the transmission kickdown which I am not using. It is not connected.
I have continuity on this green wire somewhere between the harness connector and ground. These wires disappear somewhere behind the dash. All of the external circuitry for the OEM trans have been removed from the car, so there is nothing to short out there.
Before I go tearing into the dash, Is there anything I should check?
Could it be the Instrument Cluster?
I am at a loss here so I need help. Extensive electrical is not my forte.
Thanks. plug at right side foot well. This plug comes from behind the dash. The dark green wire on the right is the one that has continuity to ground. Plug in 1st pic connects here Connector in engine bay
I have a copy of Kirby's book. The PO had a printed copy.
I have taken some time off from working on the car . Will resume work shortly.
I removed the cluster last week and Kirby said there is only one ground in the cluster circuit.
I am seeing 2 grounds. When I start back work on the car I will trace the circuit for that 2nd ground to see where it leads me.
