1988 XLS C Hose Issue
I just replaced the hood strut on the car I got less than one week ago. I was able to spend more time under the hood and I found a hose that was chewed thru by a mouse. The hose is located behind the water reservoir, has a white stripe (the bigger if the two hoses) on it and goes from a 6"x8" steel plate to a tee that goes to the intake manifold and a solenoid.
I drove the car over 125 miles home and it ran good. Can anybody tell me what the hose is for? I plan on repairing the hose. Is it best to replace the hose or can I just splice the hose? Can I replace it with any same sized hose or do I need to find a direct replacement?
The mouse also chewed some of the hoods liner but I don't see any other damage. I can also see may leaves and other items the mouse has left so I plan on cleaning the engine. Is there anything else I should look for?
The car has 73,000 miles. The car’s engine looks totally untouched. It still has the original Jaguar air cleaners installed that I have ordered the replacements. What else should I do to this car? I plan on replacing\rebuilding the brake master cylinder and going over the entire brake system. If this car is running good should I have it tuned up? If so, should I take it to a dealer or try to find a local mechanic?
The car did not come with any manuals but I have ordered the service CD.
Thank you.

A guess from the dark side.
The water tank you mention is the under bonnet radiator header tank, and there would be 2 hoses sort of behind it travelling TO the charcoal canister, which I "think" is mounted up under/behind the LH headlamp panel stuff. Make sense????, damn I'm good HAHAHAHA.
It will have to do with the fuel fumes from the tank, and the solenoid is the controller for how it does what it does. We dont have them on our '85, so simple.
Brake overhaul is always a good idea, but dont go crazy, as the system is brutally tough. The rear brakes will test your "love" for the car.
Tuning is NOT rocket science, and I reckon you could do it yourself. Dont forget we are always here.
