1990 Jaguar XJS - Convertible Interior Lights Question(s)
Hello Good People.
This is a boring one. A question about interior lights, specifically (I think) for convertible owners...
The rear quarter lights, the ones under the quarter windows over the shoulder, over the storage compartment. Are they supposed to come in with the puddle/courtesy lights? Or are they simply an on off thing? Are they controlled by the 2 buttons on the dash near the trip computer?
Mine seem to have 3 settings which I cannot figure out. Tipped up, tipped down and then, centered. I have voltage (so far I've only messed around with one side). I thought they would function with door opening and closing. No?

I think the "tip up, tip down, centered" is what determines of the lights with operate with the doors opening/closing.
I recall that one choice allows the above, another defeats the lights entirely, and the third is manual on/off of the lamp
I could be wrong !
The interior light schematics for an XJS are a bit of a brain tease. For me, at least.
Let's hear what others say

Bit of a mind bender...
It list a roof light in the convertible. Never seen one!
It also has the rears as controlled by the "interior light" switch on the dash...

When I had a '92 convertible those rear lights had a setting so they came on when door was opened as well as with the dash switch. I also recall the puddle light on the on the driver's side lower dash (not the one on the door) only came on when the door was opened, not with the dash switch. I believe the rationale was that it was a map light so only the passenger side lit up with doors closed, which didn't necessarily make sense to me.

The 90-91 Electrical Guide has the schematics for the Coupe and Convertible reversed.
See the attached mislabeled "Coupe"

Great catch, Mac,,, and thank you so much...!
And, there are differences in the rear compartment interior lights, no less. Hopefully I can decipher them differences.
You know what I did today!?
I went outside at a slow and easy pace, expecting to mess around with this situation AND to do a bit of body work on the 928. Happy as a pig in poop to have a nice slow Wednesday off... Unfortunately,,, it was/is TUESDAY!!!
Pack it up and GIT.YO.BUT.TOO.WORK!!!
Sheeeesh!
