1990 Jaguar XJS - Occasional Stutter and Stall
#21
Speaking of retry. Not out of the woods yet...
Today, installed new battery that was put on a charger for a day or so just to make sure all was good with it. Started car, only idling in the drive way and as she warmed up, same stutter, no stall but it didn't seem impossible to believe she would. Same when fully warmed up.
I started pushing and pulling on the bundle of wires in the area of the fuel rail on the left hand side of the engine. I basically can make the stuttering and miss (sounds a lot like misses) happen by fiddling with these wires. I guess my problem lives around there somewhere. I'll be cutting into the loom (which I was into before and THOUGHT I did a pretty good job on, tomorrow morning - if it doesn't rain that is.
That's all I got,,,,

Hi Jay
Why don't you make a New Wiring Harness as you've got all Winter to do it
Or you can get a ready made one from Safari

I have made a new FI harness. Well, not completely as upon inspection all of the wires in the main harness were still pliable with no cracks. What I did do was replace all of the injector plugs and the section just before the plug...
I'm wondering WHY when and if I cover something in black tape, in my twisted mind, I can call it "FIXED", lol...
This is my shielded wire.... Sad sad sad. I have a new 25foot length of shielded wire I bought the first months after starting in on ol cherry pie. Almost 5 years ago now! But, with new house and a BUNCH of things that seem to keep coming up with it,,, I am going in 20 different directions. I'm trying to figure out a time and day to string it in.
Upon pealing back the tape, I found the grounded shield in contact, or partial contact and IN the proximity of ONE of the several cracks in the shielded inner section of wire. While the car was running all I had to do was touch (even barely) the outter to the inner and the engine would stop flat.
Would someone be kind enough to remind me of the PIN at the ECU? If there are any "WATCH OUT FORs" I'd be super grateful for them pointers. On this car, it looks like both ends on either side of that spade connector, are tied into a ground. Is that right or necessary?
>>>> I'm having trouble uploading photos.
Will come back to this.

Hi Jay
Pic of the White Shielding Wire (which you probably don't need but someone else might)
Goes to Pin 24 of the ECU in the Boot/Trunk and is Grounded at the ECU end Only (NOT BOTH ENDS!) Marelli Car
