Hi All. New here, so apologies if there is a better place to post this or if the answer exists elsewhere. My all original XJS radio works fine, but when you pop in a cassette…no sound. Eject works fine and radio comes back on. Display show “2” when cassette is in. Any thought or suggestions appreciated. Everything else on the car is sorted (for now) so want to get this working!

I want to hear/know more about the car! 🤪
thanks for the input JayJagJay …. I have just ordered cassette cleaner and fluid from amazon…i imagine i had some in the house about 25 yrs ago! Will let you know how i get on. Re the car.. bought her off BAT in October. Flew down with my 13 year old son and did a 5 day road trip back to Collingwood Ontario where we live. Prior to departure i had an excellent shop called Exclusive Motor works out of Jupiter FLA redo all the fuel lines, put new shoes on her, adjust timing .. few other minor things. We had a complete problem free, and entirely memorable trip home. Listing is here. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1991-jaguar-xjs-39/

Really really niiiice...
Just like mine, only in 1000x better shape.
I found mine with no floors, having sat outside on the dirt for 10yrs, Today I feel crazy having taken it on but honestly none of the bringing it back to life was that bad. With the support and guidance from these guys here - needs to be stressed and can't be over exaggerated... Still I'm always poking and prodding. But I couldn't be happier.
Well that’s a real beauty too…and now you have the pride and satisfaction of bringing her back to life. I am 5 or so yrs from retirement..at which point i will attempt to tackle something like that … for now i wanted something pretty much done..so this one fit the bill...and having bought sight unseen…really happy with it. Thanks for sharing
My '89 still has the factory cassette cleaning kit in the glove compartment. My radio doesn't work, just makes a buzzing sound and displays "SC2" which I guess is for security code. I haven't messed with trying to get it to work as more pressing issues are in the works. I do have what I believe is the security code hand written in the owners manual.

thanks! mine also has the factory kit, but its never been opened, so going to try it with an amazon one. I have my code, and the radio works fine. just the cassette issue. I actually have some decent cassettes still, so would like to get it going.
Hi, trying cleaning might help, chances are thoogh that the small rubber belts that drive the cassette mechanism are broken (age). Can be replaced, didi id for my '86 radio (clation E950), not sure what radio /belts your MY uses
Regards
Evert
thanks EvertXJS ... i suspect you are right. cleaning didnt help...and not sure that the tape was turning on the cleaner (which supports what you suggest). I will pop it back in and see if the tape has moved from one reel to the next.
I did some searching, service manuals, part numbers, internet. Jaguar used pretty standard high-end radios (clarion/ alpine, depending on model year). If you know the make and type number you should be able to find the belts. I can help you if you want, just put type information you have in this chat.
I need to remove mine and have a local repair shop go through it. Cassette player went bad the LED’s illuminate when the lights are off and shut off when I turn my headlights on. Not sure if the dimmer lighting mode is burned out or if something is switched up. Luckily theres a local guy who specializes in repairing factory radios.
