1994 lock issue

I have a 1994 XJS 40.l convertible. I’ve done a search and can’t seem to find a solution to my problem
i cannot lock the car from either front door. The interior locking mechanism works fine, I.e., pushing the locking bar on either front door locks the doors and trunk; however, if I lock the car using the interior locking system, I cannot unlock the car using the key in either door. If I leave the car unlocked, I cannot lock it using the key in either front door.
One of the common thoughts on the searches is that a weak battery might cause this problem. My battery is new, so I’ve excluded that solution.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
Presuming you have done this, but thought I cover the basics. Does the key turn at all in the door lock (in either door) and are you using the right key. I have an ignition key, a door key and a boot key that (until I changed my ignition lock) all looked the same.
Also - my passenger door did not lock with the key, but put lubrication oil on the key and slide it in the chamber a few times - now opens sweet.
Cheers

Thanx for the reply.
Yes, the key turns in the lock. Now, it does turn in only one direction in both doors, i.e., towards the rear of the car. I'll lubricate the key and see if that changes.
I have two keys. One, which is a regular key, locks the fuel cap. The other, a Tibbe key, is used in the ignition and it does lock the boot. Since it goes into the door locks I'm assuming it should lock the car.

Mine is a 1990... I had my door cards off last weekend trying to figure out what was going on in there. My locks basically didn't work. I could use the key for a completely manual feeling lock,,, to lock the driver's door and sometimes (sometimes) when I did that the locking solenoids would go into a tizzy,,, usually cycling about 3x before giving up. Locks still unlocked. What solved this was lots of goose grease (ATF fluid and acetone) in the locks and in the moving parts on both doors. Then, manual (grabbing the rods pinned to the door shell) pushing and shoving the locks into and out of the locked unlocked position. After a little bit of this on the driver's door,,, the actuator WOKE and started functioning. Both doors!
Shoooooot,,,, ME? I made the sign of the cross, put everything back together and tried to act like I it was always that way, lol...
Now, when my girlfriend and I go to get in,,, I act all cool pretending like I know what I did hahaha... Next is a remote alarm...
DO ME A FAVOR??? Could you take a photo (a few) of your auto trunk locking mechanism and post it here? I have one OFF the car I would like to install. Just not sure of it's orientation.

Solved my problem.
Removed the lock cylinder and found out the lock had been changed. Tried to resequence the discs that makeup the key code but didn't have the right combination of discs that would match my current ignition key. Jaguar used to offer rebuild kits for the lock cylinders but they are no longer available so I'll have to get new cylinders, with keys.
thanx for all the help received on this forum.
