Default 1994 XJS



I need the two bolts shown in this picture which secure what I believe is the right front stabilizer bar.
I lost two bolts from, what I am told is, the right front stabilizer bar. One bolt is about three inches long and the other is about 1.5 inches long. Both bolts have fine threads. I can not find replacements anywhere. Hope some one can help me.

Hi

That curved Bar is the Steering Arm and not surprised those Bolts fell out, as they are supposed to be Wired, through those tiny holes drilled in the Bolt Heads

So what you need to be looking for are Two new Caliper Bolts to bolt the Steering Arm on, which almost any Jaguar Shop should have in stock

And you also need to Wire-up the 2 bolts shown in your Photo, or you could also find they will fall out, which if left unchecked would have you losing your Steering and in the event that should happen, then it could be 'game over' for both you and your Car

Thanks so much. In the Baton Rouge area, I have not had any luck finding those blots. Into which hole does the longer bolt screw? I might be able to figure that out once I replace the bolts.

By the way, you XJS12 is fine.

The lower one is the longer one.

The exposed gear is the antilock brake gauge (not a gear).

I assume you mean the bolts that go through the large arm that goes diagonally through the photo? If so, that's the steering arm. Both those bolts are NLA from Jaguar now. I think they are 1/2" threads, you should be able to get something like that from McMaster carr. Threads are UNF.

I believe the later cars used locitite, not wire.

Maybe some do but the Bolts shown in the Photo, have holes for 'Locking Wire'

Guys, FYI and to avoid spoiling your hub upright:
The threads on ALL THREE bolts (steering arm to upright, and the top and bottom calliper bolts - the lower calliper bolt is the longer one) are not, repeat not, UNF threads.
All three of them are Metric Fine Thread. The normal suppliers (eg Manners) still sell them. The two calliper bolts should be lockwired, though honestly I am sure Loctite would do it OK..

They are? The part numbers go back to Series 2 XJ6, I wasn't aware those cars had any metric fasteners on them.

In many ways, Loctite is superior to lockwiring. It's not a single product, they make many different things for different applications.

They absolutely definitely are. It is one of the most common misapprehensions that they are UNF. I suspect it is because all the Girling brake hardware was metric well before Jaguar as a constructor went metric. The series 2 XJ6 was a design contemporary of the XJS remember.

Are we talking about the bolts that hold the calliper to the upright (or "vertical link" in the parts book), or the steering arm to the upright? I thought it was the steering arm to upright bolts?

WE are talking about the three bolts, 17, 18 and 19 in the diagram below, that secure
i) the steering arm to the upright at the top 17
ii) the caliper top bolt to the upright 18, and
iii) the caliper/steering arm/upright bolt 19, this is the long one of the three.
The two calliper bolts were lockwired, on pre facelifts anyway.
All three are metric fine thread; they all go into threaded holes in the same upright.
