Hi Art,
I had to repaint the top engine cover on one of my 95 XJS engines. I did some research and found the right paint to match the original paint. I will look up the exact paint which I believe I purchased at Napa auto parts supply and it is heat paint for engines. I will post this info for you in the next day or so. The AJ16 motor has a common issue with this top cover peeling and discoloring so this is a common problem and easy to remedy.
I will do my best to get the paint I used posted by Tuesday night as I have it stored in my back shop.

Art,
I found the paint that I used on my cam cover on the AJ16 motor. It is Dupli-Color engine enamel. I did a quick Google search and found at least three places you can purchase this spray paint from : Jegs.com , Autozone and O'Reilly Auto Parts. I am pretty sure I purchased mine at Napa Auto Parts but looks like Dupli-Color is pretty much carried by all the major parts stores and on line.
I used the Gray engine primer # DE 1612 first after I had stripped all the old paint etc. off the cam cover. I then used the ALUMINUM PAINT # DE 1615. I think for the green on the JAGUAR raised letters I used a automotive paint in British racing green of course but do not remember for sure. I used a very small foam brush to put on the green on the raised letters after the cam cover was painted.
To strip the old paint off the cam cover I used a air craft grade of paint stripper and then pressure washed off. I found one of the spark plug access holes had either spark arched or corroded and the metal was thin at the base so I used a two part epoxy to correct and sanded smooth before I repainted.
Hope this information is helpful for all that have the AJ16 engine. It is very common for the original paint on these to start peeling from having oil on them etc. so something most of us will deal with on this engine. I did order a new gasket set for the cam cover when I did this as it is also common to get oil leaking at the spark plug holes. You will want to look up the proper torque spec settings and proper bolt tightening sequence on the cam cover.
