1995 XJS convertible top fluid
I just purchased a 1995 jag xjs 6 cylinder. Fluid is leaking from between the reservoir and the pump. I would like to know what the gasket looks like. Does anyone have a picture? Also, what fluid should i use? The local Jag dealer sold me Castrol 27LM9886 .(green fluid) I was told not to use this, after I put in a little to get the top up. Now do I have to flush the system? and How would I do that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ben

Spec is an ISO 13 viscosity anti wear hydraulic oil. The green Castrol oil is intended for the mineral oil systems in the 1988-94 sedans ( code named XJ40) and is the wrong oil for the system. It's too thick and will put additional strain on the pump. Depending on the amount and temperatures, I have heard of pump failures from using it.
If you live in a hot climate and didn't put much it, it will probably be fine. I don't have a diagram at hand, but I think it's an O ring for the seal? Not sure. If it's flat, you could use something like Loctite 515 Flange Sealer.
I have found aircraft hydraulic oil, generically known as 5606 spec is the right viscosity. It comes in A and H grades, A is an older spec, H is for "super clean" aircraft systems. Either works, use whatever you can find and is cheaper.
