1996 electrical problem
Hello. I'm new to the forum and love forums like this. I have a Harley and go on a forum regularily to share ideas. Anyway I have a question regarding a 1996 XJS. I have a short. I have narrowed it down to a 10 amp fuse in the rear right side of the trunk that is identified as a fuse feed. When I pull the fuse the car wont start as there is no power at the ignition switch. Does anyone know what the fuse feed feeds? I had previously had to pull the 5 amp fuse for the interior light as that was killing the battery. Thank you.

There's some good info in the XJS FAQ sticky thread.... including electrical diagrams for all years of XJS. You don't state whether you have a 4.0 or a V12. It's a good idea to put this info in your signature, then if you don't state it, we can work it out without asking.
Anyway, I had a quick look at the circuit diagram for a 96 4.0 car. This fuse number 11 (10A) in the rear fuse box is indeed coded "fused feed" which isn't immediately helpful, but when you trace where it goes, you will see it goes into the security system. I'm guessing the name is kind of cryptic to prevent a would be thief quickly looking through a fuse box diagram and pulling the fuse for the security system... ?
Anyway, the security system controls your start inhibit, so I'm guessing that if this fuse is removed, the security system will not activate the starter inhibit, and the car won't start.
When you say "I have a short" how do you know ? Is it because your battery is draining down ? or is it because when you do something or operate a control on the car a fuse blows ?
