TO ALL,
After three (3) months of non stop working on a boat restoration project for my grandson……
I DECIDED TO…..
Well, let’s give it another go!
After meeting with Larry back in March ( Thank You for the help!….he was convinced it was not the catalytic converter…..I was not!
Although I was pretty convinced that it was the catalytic converter system……I DECIDED TO DO THE FOLLOWING
I pulled the EGR AND CLEANED IT (second time) AGAIN. The difference this time is that I also cleaned all of the ports with thin wire brushes and carb cleaner. I MEAN I REALLY SCRUBBED IT!!!!!!
It has now been two (2) days and no soot out of the tail pipe when it is cold started. I drove it around the neighborhood and the engine is running great!
I don’ t know if the EGR WAS CARBON BLOCKED OR SOMETHING ELSE CAUSED THIS ISSUE ON THE EGR…BARELY SEVERAL MONTHS OLD……..LOT’S OF CARBON/SOOT CAME OUT……MAYBE 27 YEARS WORTH.
Hopefully this is good news and NO EXPENSIVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT.
If anything changes I will let all of you know…..AND IT WON’T TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS CAUSE THE BOAT IS DONE!!!!
Thanks
