1996 XJS 4.0 Transmission Mount
While looking for a disconnected hose this morning I discovered that the back of my transmission seems to move up and down several inches, it can be pushed upward almost enough to hit the floorboard.
I assumed the mount must be bad but when I looked for a mount online I am finding a diagram that's a complete confusing mess. Some sellers on eBay even seem to sell each individual little piece by themselves.
How much up/down movement is normal and when you replace one do you guys normally do this piece by piece thing or can you buy the whole mount as an assembly somewhere?
I'm trying to make sure the car is ready to leave for a LONG round trip come Sept 8th that will be almost 3600 miles and 70 hours of driving time over a two week period and this almost last minute discover isn't good timing.

SouthernGypsy,
If you've got excess movement, it'll probably be the springs and foam & rubber spring seats that are worn. As always, just look on the Jaguar website for part numbers and availability. Then you can decide whether to buy from Jaguar or elsewhere.
The most obvious sign of wear is usually a knock from the rear of the transmission as you drive over bumps. The other sign of really excess wear is the engine fan hits the top of the fan shroud as the engine & box start to pivot on the engine mounts without being damped by the transmission mount. If you can see wear marks on the underside of the shroud or wear marks on the fan blades, that's the sign. You don't want a fan blade to let go as it will go through the rad!
Good luck

Most of the online places show out of stock on most of the individual parts, the guy on eBay doesn't even tell what the parts he's selling are, he just gives a part number and you have to open a new window to go search to find out what each individual one is.
Does anyone just offer the complete thing already put together and ready to bolt on?
