To All,
Simple question: Is it possible to remove the fuel pump on a 96 XJS Convertible without removing the fuel tank???
At some point I am going to have to replace the fuel pump although all is good right now but have just gone over the 100K miles.
Dependent on the access point to the fuel pump cover maybe through the back seat area a panel could be cut... don't know?? Just thinking out loud!! Probably get me in trouble.
I am getting up in age and would prefer not having to remove the tank.
Appreciate all of your observations!!!

you don't have to completely remove the tank still want it to be near empty on fuel. your need to slide it out a bit though. i don't think cuting a access panel in the rear seat area is going to do you any good without measuring i would guess its probably closer to where the rear window meets the body.

Hi Paul
As for cutting a hole in your Car, I wouldn't even go there as it would be more hassle than you can shake a stick at
So if you need to replace the Pump, I will send my Sympathies in Advance as this is one of those Total PIA Jobs, that is Physiologically draining, as there is so much to do for so little reward
I've just done the one on mine but as has been already said you don't need to take the Tank right out, unless you really need to in order to give it a clean
DO NOT LOSE THE FUEL PIPE CLIPS or that is going to really spoil your day
Apart from that almost every piece of Trim has to come out of the Boot/Trunk and there can be some really awkward bolts to undo
As for me it took me a Month in between fault finding why She wouldn't Start but if you get yourself organized and really knuckle down, then you could probably do the job over a Weekend
You can see how I did mine here on my 'Cherry Blossom' restoration Thread

Great Job icsamerica!!!
Reminds me of my days at Waterford Sports car track in Waterford, Michigan with John Greenwood A Hall of Fame Corvette World class racer.
He got his start there honing his skills which led him on to win Le Mans 24hr. Among many other titles.
We used to terrorize Woodward Blvd! Through the suburbs of Detroit, Mi.
Thanks for bringing back some great memories
