1996 XJS Engine Stalling Out

1996 XJS Engine Stalling Out
After replacing my EGR Valve and Fuel Filter, my engine seems
to stall out occasionally at stop lights, or after I turn the
engine over.
It starts right back up afterwards and drives without problem.
Any idea what it could be?
I also notice that I now have a rough, or choppy idle when the engine is cold.
I made the mistake of using an aftermarket EGR Valve (Standard
is the brand name). The fuel valve is from the dealer.
I get no check engine light.

I have more information on my car troubles.
On my ride home today the car stalled out again, this time
leaving the Automatic Transmission Failure light on. The
car restarted immediately again and got me home, although I
admit I was only a few miles away.
I hooked it up to my rather simple code reader, and although
it did not read any codes, it did not detect the catalytic
converter as "ready". (Oddly enough, it read the EGR as
fine, as well as oxygen sensors and such)
What's going on?

I went to the dealer and I'm being told that I have to replace the throttle body and stepper motor. That's going to cost $2,300 installed. They're telling me the stepper motor is stuck on to the throttle body, so they'll both have to be replaced?
<gulp>
That's a ton of dough. Replacing the potentiometer seemed like a good solution, but I'd be throwing money and time into this problem.
Does anyone have any recommendations before I take the plunge...

Throttle body & Stepper
That's really expensive (dealer price, go figure). There is a site called Jagbits that have these parts quite a bit cheaper. Try www.jagbits.com. You can buy the parts for under $1200. Good luck!
I am assuming you have the 4.0. I didn't look up the 12 cyl.

Turns out it's apparently a dirty...no FILTHY throttle body.
A solid cleaning has apparently made the problem go away. Unless I
update this thread in the future, consider the buildup in the
throttle body to be the culprit.
I already know that this problem can resurface at anytime, so this
victory could amount to nothing more than a tempoarary solution.
Thanks for everyone's advice.
